The American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery (ABOS)
Founded in 1934 as a private, voluntary, nonprofit, autonomous organization, the ABOS exists to serve the best interest of the public and the medical profession by establishing educational standards for orthopaedic residents and by evaluating the initial and continuing qualifications and competence of orthopaedic surgeons.

Registration
Before scheduling an examination appointment, you must have already:
- Paid the Examination Fee.
- Been notified of your eligibility to sit for the examination.

Scheduling your Examination
You will need to login into the ABOS portal to schedule your examination appointment.

After you schedule your test, Pearson VUE will send a confirmation letter listing your test date, your testing time, and the address the test center, directions to the test center, along with important policies for your review and information.
Identification Requirements
Verification of your identification is an important part of the admission process. If the name/address information you originally provided the ABOS does not match your photo ID, you must resolve the discrepancies with the ABOS at least 48 hours before you arrive at the test center.
We ask that you arrive at the test center 30 minutes before your scheduled appointment time. This will provide adequate time to complete the necessary sign-in procedures. Unfortunately, no extra time will be allowed to compensate for late arrival. Two forms of identity documentation are required to enter the testing room.
- The primary identity document must contain your photograph and signature.
- The secondary identity document must contain either your photograph or signature.
Acceptable Forms of Identification
You are required to present two forms of original (no photocopies), valid (unexpired) IDs; one form as a primary ID (government issued with name, photo and signature) and one form as a secondary ID (with name and signature or name and recent recognizable photo). The first and last name that you used to register must match exactly the first and last name on the ID that is presented on test day. All IDs required must be issued by the country in which you are testing. If you do not have the qualifying ID issued from the country you are testing in, an International Travel Passport from your country of citizenship is required, along with a secondary ID. Results
Results will not be issued upon completion of an examination. Results will be provided to you by ABOS. Dates that results will be published are available at www.abos.org and refer to the calendar for the examination you have taken.
