Illinois Department of Insurance renews Pearson VUE agreement to deliver insurance exams

BLOOMINGTON, MN, October 4, 2013 — The Illinois Department of Insurance has agreed to a multi-year renewal with Pearson VUE to deliver its computer-based insurance examinations. The contract award was made following a competitive bidding process.

Over the course of the past 23 years, Pearson VUE has helped the Department grow and develop its program from paper & pencil administration to a computer-based testing program with state-of-of-the-art data management. Pearson VUE’s service offerings have helped the Department to develop their content for both Life & Health and Property & Casualty exams on a continuous basis.

In 2010, Insurance subject matter experts from Illinois were among the insurance licensing law officials, insurance educators, insurance attorneys, and experienced insurance practitioners working on Pearson VUE’s Insurance Job Task Analysis- a pivotal step in maintaining the quality and validity of Pearson VUE’s national insurance examinations.

Kelly Kruger, Assistant Deputy Director, Producer Licensing, said: “As a longstanding partner, Pearson VUE continues to help grow the quality, maintain the validity and increase the accessibility of our licensure program while maintaining a high level of security and a quality testing environment for candidates. For example, their expertise in psychometrics and supporting our examinations is invaluable in meeting the future needs of insurance professionals in Illinois.”

Pearson VUE delivers multiple-choice tests in Life, Accident and Health, Property, and Casualty in two parts and Motor Vehicle and Public Adjuster in a single part. Tests can be taken year-round at test centers in Illinois and across the US, enabling candidates the flexibility to test when they are ready.

Robert Whelan, CEO and President of Pearson VUE, said: “We’re extremely proud to renew this long-standing partnership with the Illinois Department of Insurance. It shows that we continue to demonstrate our value to their Producer Licensing staff and crucially to insurance professionals and their clients across Illinois.”

Pearson VUE’s psychometric services team also provides an annual analysis of overall exam performance and individual item performance based on race, gender, and education level, which has been used by the Department to develop and improve areas of concern.
